Straiton Engineering was formed by two professional engineers seeking a renewed focus on the quality of design and client service. While we operate primarily in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, our projects span Western Canada.
Our valued clients include developers, business owners, universities, property managers, government agencies, and industrial companies. We protect our clients’ interests in each and every project while striving for exceptional communication and service.
Our corporate philosophy is simple, and follows three basic tenets:
The trust of our clients is the bedrock of our business; we remind ourselves of this with every action we take.
Our people are the means of delivering results to our clients; we find and keep people who share our passion for service and design.
Every decision our people make should better our world in some small way, whether through economic success, sustainability, or quality of the built environment. We do the right thing for our clients, our people, and society. Always.
Mike Dixon P.Eng., LEED AP BD+C
As the engineer-of-record on over five hundred projects across three provinces, Mike’s design experience is extensive and varied. His work ranges from commercial and residential to telecommunications, district energy, post-secondary education and industrial construction.
With broad knowledge of the interrelations between mechanical systems and other design disciplines, paired with a background in energy modelling and sustainability, Mike adds value to any design team he is a part of.
John Buxton P.Eng., CPHD, LEED AP
With a deep foundation in building performance analysis dating back over a decade, John has guided hundreds of design teams to their projects’ energy efficiency targets in BC, Alberta, and the Northern Territories. Certified by the Passive House Institute, CaGBC and BC Hydro Power Smart, his deep understanding of the interactions between a building’s envelope, HVAC, lighting and process systems allow him to quickly and effectively optimize the team’s designs for maximum performance at minimum cost.
John’s knowledge of energy mechanisms and attention to detail also support his design work, which includes district energy plants, ground source heat exchangers, custom energy recovery systems, and the associated controls systems to optimize these plants.
Satwinder Diogan GradTech
With over 12 years in the industry starting as a journeyman plumber and gas fitter, Sat’s hands-on understanding of the trades means his designs avoid problems on site, and his solutions during construction are practical and cost effective. Sat graduated from BCIT with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, and has since gained considerable experience designing and managing a broad spectrum of projects ranging from residential and commercial to institutional and healthcare
Dylan Wilson P.Eng.
With over 8 years in the construction industry, and 5 years in Mechanical Consulting, Dylan joined the Straiton team at the beginning of 2020, as a Project Manager and Mechanical Designer. After graduating from BCIT in 2013 with a Mechanical Technologist diploma, he continued to Lakehead University, where Dylan received his Bachelor of Engineering Degree. While attending Lakehead, Dylan’s design team placed third in the 2017 ASHRAE Student Design Competition in the Design Calculation category.
Dylan’s knowledge of the construction industry grew from his time working as a plumbing apprentice. His experience on-site helped him learn, first-hand, the ins and outs of mechanical systems, including hot water heating, sanitary and domestic water installations. While working in consulting, Dylan’s experience has ranged from mixed-use residential buildings and tenant improvements, to hospital and courthouse renovations.
Megan Sibley EIT
With an aptitude for planning and communication, Megan displays an innate ability to operate across multiple deadlines on short timelines while working within interdisciplinary teams. In addition to an Engineering degree, bachelor’s degrees in both Education and Arts have refined her communication skills, adding further to her ability to guide projects efficiently from proposal stage to final occupancy.
Her design experience ranges from townhomes and low-rise residential buildings, to mixed-use towers, health care facilities, post-secondary buildings, restaurants, and chain store tenant improvements. With society’s ever-increasing focus on efficiency and emissions, Megan’s experience on BC Energy Step Code and LEED Gold certified buildings helps her drive projects towards their sustainability targets.
With years in local industry and over one hundred projects, Megan will be earning her P.Eng. designation in 2021.
Justin Robertson GradTech
CAD Systems LEAD
With an eye for detail and over 15 years of CAD experience, Justin is a valuable asset to any design team. After graduating from BCIT in 2014, he has worked on a variety of project types including residential high rises, seniors living homes, dental clinics, and commercial kitchens. In Justin’s free time he enjoys playing baseball and experimenting with 3d printing.
With almost a decade in Electrical Consulting, Manny has obtained a wealth of experience on various types of projects. His design experience ranges from tenant improvement spaces and franchise restaurant designs to low-rise residential buildings, townhomes, high-rise buildings and healthcare facilities.
Graduating from the Architectural and Engineering Technology program at Thompson Rivers University in 2013, Manny gained insights into all aspects of engineering and architectural design, in addition to detailed knowledge of construction practices. The enthusiasm and versatility fostered from his education has served him well for over 8 years in the industry. His interpersonal skills and experience enable him to understand and coordinate with all design parties effectively and efficiently to ensure projects are completed accurately and catered to the needs of our clients.
